TV at Work – Bell Mobility

Would you rather be working, or watching TV?

This commercial for Bell Mobility and their ‘tv on your celphone‘ service shows just a few of the dangers of using your mobile phone as a television set while at the office.

This commercial started out as a pitch. In the fall of 2005 Bell canada’s advertising campaign used mostly stock images and lacked strong branding consistency. Bell started losing some of the brand name recognition they had built up during the first pixel ad campaign, particularly in the west.

This spot kicked off the return of pixel art advertising for Bell, but this time they decided to use this style for all of their branding rather than just the youth brand. All of a sudden Bell was using our pixel style ads for ther Mobility, ExpressVU & Sympatico brands. This made us very busy over the fall and winter, with campaigns for TV, newspaper and magazine ads that all had to be designed in this pixel style. We worked with two agencies on this campaign: Rethink in Vancouver and Cossette in Toronto.

Cheerleaders – Eggo mini rolls

Who doesn\'t like cinnamon and sugar?

Who doesn't like cinnamon and sugar?

This is another animated waffle ad for the Kellogg Eggo campaign, but this one has a catchy cheer. I did some heavy photoshop retouching on the cinnamon bun that introduces this spot. We got about a hundred freshly baked cinnamon and shot tonnes of still photos from a bunch of different angles so we could pick just the right one, but you wouldn’t believe how bad a close-up photo of an actual cinnamon bun can look.

The studio smelled incredibly good that day.

For the cinnamon mini-rolls we had to come up with a graphic animated representation of brown sugar and cinnamon sparkles – I really like the way these turned out.

Spider-Man 2 Solo

When you\'re in the cinema, don\'t forget to look down!

When you're in the cinema, don't forget to look down!

The original spiderman 2 gaming spot I did was well received, so bell came back for a second theatrical spot using the same little spider character I made for the first one. This commercial takes place in the same theater environment that it’s played in, and like the first spot, this played along with previews for the second Spider-Man feature film in Canada.

Kittikat – Nickelodeon

Do androids dream of electric cats?

Do androids dream of electric cats?

I designed and directed this series of bumpers for Nickelodeons Nicktoons animation focused digital tv channel. The cat character was originally designed for a different nickelodeon project, but they were keen on using it to brand nicktoons. I have an affection for characters with featureless or blank expressions like this cat, I like the way their mood is vague and up for interpretation.

These station ids were created in Maya and rendered with a toonshader (ironically called ‘tomcat’). Final compositing was finished in After Effects. The music was created by Dennis Burke.
